Claude Code is the version of Claude that can act, not just answer. In the Claude chat app you paste in a spreadsheet and get advice back. In Claude Code you point it at a folder and ask for the result you want: it reads the files, does the work and saves the output, asking your permission before it changes anything. It runs in a terminal window or in the Claude desktop app on Windows and Mac.
Yes. The skill it needs is describing a job clearly, which owners do every day. Claude writes whatever code the job needs and says what it is about to do before it does it. Everything we sell, we first built for our own businesses with Claude Code. These are our businesses, not client case studies, and they run on the same stack we set up for clients: Claude Code to build, the Claude API where a system needs to think, and the tools the business already uses.
What it does: Syncs our skincare brand’s warehouse stock and Shopify sales at 6am every day, raises stock and reorder alerts, drafts purchase orders for a person to approve and puts a Claude-written daily brief on the dashboard. Critical problems are emailed.
What Claude Code did: Claude Code wrote the inventory platform and its scheduled jobs. It was built by Ollie Watts, who runs marketing across our businesses and is not a developer.
What it does: Takes every enquiry from our virtual assistant agency’s website, filters out spam and job applicants, stores the lead and sends real buyers to the team’s pipeline.
What Claude Code did: Claude Code built the form handler, a Cloudflare Worker, the spam and applicant scoring, the lead database and a dashboard. The core went live in one day in July 2026, followed by a full review and fixes the next week.
What it does: The internal operations platform for invoicing, payroll and client onboarding at DotVA.
What Claude Code did: Claude Code built it from May 2026 and is still used to extend it.

Claude Code comes with any paid Claude plan. Claude Pro is US$20 a month (about A$33 including GST at checkout; check current pricing) and the Max plans are US$100 or US$200 a month for heavier use. You can instead pay per use through the Claude API, which suits agents that run unattended. In our experience the Claude API cost of a typical small-business agent is $3–15 a month.

It is when it’s set up properly. By default Claude Code asks before it edits a file or runs a command, and you can block it from reading passwords and keys altogether. Work in a copy of your folder, keep backups, connect business software read-only first, and on Pro and Max plans check the privacy setting that decides whether your sessions can be used to train Anthropic’s models.
